The only logical explanation I could think of is that someone had a Black & Decker power sander in hand and made room for their own 8.5x11 poster. Greedy much?

WHY? so soon? I liked where i put my poster, I wanted to keep it. I noticed that my poster was M.I.A. about a week ago. I really just want to take a big black sharpie to the billboard and write 'Vote or Die' in a speech bubble next to the silhouettes. That billboard is some prime real estate for some political graffiti.

Hmmmm....Maybe that white shirt should have something on it. Seems like a good focal point for a message.

iaspire billboard

I decided to put my vote poster on the iaspire billboard on the corner of Whaley's and Assembly Street.
This billboard gets my attention every time I pass by it, so I can monitor the progress easily. It is also made with vector graphics so it resembles my poster and blends in, also conveying the message to vote.
When I placed the poster on the billboard, it was during heavy traffic at around 2:30pm. There is currently construction for the iaspire apartments and I do not think the poster will be taken down until the end of construction.

i was betting that my poster would stay up for at least a year, possibly five years.

this hawk was just chilling in the tree on the left of the top picture about 10 feet off the ground. maybe he took it.

I posted my vote poster at the intersection of Duncan St. and Harden. I figured it was a high traffic area in good reach to the stop sign. It can also pick up runners on the sidewalk. It is a great place to get many different kinds of people all the way from the Shandon housewife, to the lazy college student. Also, more than likely the people that live in this area drive through this intersection multiple times a day. So the more they see it, the more likely they are to remember it.

Political Science Department

Ok, well 2 weeks and really nothing on my poster except "AAAS"?. It's hung up on the announcement board in the Political Science department. I realize this is like putting a white supremacy poster at a Nazi party convention, but hey. I thought I'd make it extra obvious and dangle a little sharpie there and hope someone would break out of their socially correct shell and defacing-ly doodle/baffle others with their knowledge of the whole electoral proceedings...nope. I'm not going to make it any more obvious.

day 1. i posted it at the concert venue Headliners. it seems like drunken crowds are a hit target with some of us. hundreds of people stand in line here every night theres a concert, or during the weekend. the crowd from nightclubs TABU and Element share this hallway with Headliners as well. nothing has happened to it in the past week, which is a bummer b/c i was really hoping for some vandalism. this hallway has seen it all.

I was thinking of a good place for my anaglyph vote poster to live, and I eventually stuck it on the metal traffic box (technical term) at the corner of Pickens and Greene Street. As I stuck it on, I heard a Keanu Reeves-esque voice behind me exclaim, "Dude, nice poster!" To which I shamelessly took credit. Sorry AIGA.

I find that this is one of the busiest places to walk through when school's in session, because students are willing to turn into roadkill if/when that Dodge Durango's a little too late to slam the brakes. Also, eye-level real estate was minimal, and I wanted to stick with that place, so I used cheapo duct tape and slapped it on as high as it'd fit without tearing down the posters of lame bands. I wish that it was placed a little higher, but now it pertains to the hobbit community...with 3-D specs.

Katie A.- Poster day 1-3

My poster's new home is on a light post in front of the Wachovia in five points. I feel like this is a pretty high traffic area. It is directly across from the new fountain that was built at the Blossom street intersection. After two whole days it is still there. Between the city clean up crew that comes through every morning and the multitudes of drunk kids that wander past there every night, I'm surprised it is still there.  Today is the third day and it has been raining a lot. I semi-laminated it by super taping it. Hopefully it can withstand the rain a little! We'll see first thing tomorrow morning...

CheyAnna:Day 2: All Gone

Well, not even 24 hours after I put up my poster, someone came along and snagged it. I've come to the conclusion that: a) someone really liked it, b) someone hated it and threw it away, or c) things just aren't allowed to be put up here. Notice in the bottom picture that there isn't any other printed materials posted except for the USC regulations blah blah. However, at other shuttle stops there is a ton of stuff thrown up so who knows. Since my poster has run off I am going to put another one up somewhere else and post that one up on the blog soon. I just have to think of a better spot I guess :)

karmen-Day 1

i've been trying to decide where i wanted to put my poster for a long time. so last night i went to sonic for dinner and happened to have my poster with me. it seemed to be the perfect place for it because, after all, who doesn't go to sonic? a car hop came up to me right after i taped it up and i thought she was going to take it down right then and there. luckily she just told me she really liked the poster and that it was a good idea to put it there. it'll be interesting to see how long it lasts!

I wanted to place my poster in a place that was very noticeable to the public because I thought the message was pretty simple, bold and straight-forward.  So, I taped it to a light pole at the intersection of Assembly St. and College St. I wasn't sure if this was legal or not so we'll have to see how long it stays up.

CheyAnna: Day 1

Day 1:

I put my poster up at the shuttle stop on Barnwell. I wanted to post it somewhere that I knew I went often so I could keep track of it. With it being up at the bus stop that I go to a few times a day, I can observe people reading it and see their reactions.

I posted my poster in the window at Papa Jazz, prime location for reaching the blurred vision of beer-filled bar stumblers across Columbia, who are all generally at least 16 years old, depending on what bar you're coming from. Either way, I knew it would not get stolen because its taped inside and seeing as how it attracts those 18 or older, I thought 5 points was a nice home for it.

2nd DAY                                                                                           Saturday 10/04/08

 After one full day I have already seen some postings! People seem to be adding to the countdown, which is what I was hoping for. And there were a couple of other random phrases - both possibly racist - the controversy begins. I think it will be interesting to see what people are willing to say about this election when they are sure no one is paying attention.

 Hopefully the more the poster fills up, the more other people will be inclined to add something. Who knows?

1^st DAY

What I have in mind with this poster’s journey to the polls is to really play up the “You Complete Us” theme, by actually having people “complete” the poster with their own points of view about the election. So I have attached a Sharpie to the poster and written some generalized stuff just to get the dialogue going.  “56^th Presidential Election”, and a count down – the count down was added just make it known that writing on the thing is encouraged. 

I hung the poster by the mailboxes at the apartment complex where I live.

What I hope to accomplish is basically the same thing as this blog. The poster will be a community posting for thoughts and opinions, except it will be done in a pre-internet fashion. I don’t expect too many thoughtful comments, there’s not much room for that kind of thing anyway, but I would be pleased to see some participation. Mostly it’s just intended to get people thinking about the election.

So with that said, we will see where it goes.
